Job Summary

The Financial Aid Associate will coordinate awarding ROTC scholarships, financial aid for veterans and the dependents of veterans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Director of Financial Aid to review and update internal policies regarding Veterans benefits to ensure alignment with federal and state mandates.
  • Play a critical role in the decision-making process to fulfill the requirements of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Defense (DoD) and provide exceptional service to Veterans.
  • Review and submit reconciliation of Post 911, Chapter 35, Chapter 31, MIA/POW, Illinois Veterans Grant, Illinois National Guard and ROTC.
  • Provide timely and accurate responses for the 85/15 report, Survey requests from Veterans Affairs and updating the MOU DoD.
  • Certify and apply the correct benefit type to each Veteran, based upon eligibility as defined by Veterans Affairs.
  • Ensure that over award of Veterans benefits does not occur.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of campus programming for Veterans and dependents of Veterans.
  • Attend community events for Veterans to share Veterans services available at CSU.
  • Participate in required training and conferences, quarterly meetings held by Veterans Affairs and annual AVECO Conference.
  • Assist in the staffing and operation of the Veterans Resource Center.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business, communications, humanities, social sciences, or a closely related field to the position.
  • One (1) year (12 months) of professional experience working in student services, financial aid/loans or a closely related field within higher education or a related agency.
  • Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of scholarship and federal aid programs.
  • Computerized financial aid systems.
  • Ability to compile data and prepare reports.
  • General operations of an institution of higher education.
