Residence Hall Director

South Dakota State University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Residence Hall Director to join our team. As a key member of the Housing and Residential Life department, you will be responsible for leading a dynamic team of paraprofessionals and creating an inclusive environment for our students and staff.

• Hall Management and Supervision: Select, train, supervise, and evaluate Community Assistants, providing strong leadership and direction to the live-in paraprofessional staff.
• Residence Hall Leader and Resource Agent: Provide overall direction and guidance for the residence hall, building community through being involved, supporting, and encouraging residents and staff.
• Hall Government Advisor: Actively advise and guide student leaders involved with the individual residence Hall Government, overseeing hall programming and hall government budget.
• Student Conduct Hearing Officer: Meet with residents allegedly in violation of policy, procedure, or Student Code, helping them understand their rights and responsibilities.
• Departmental and Divisional Support: Participate in campus-wide on-call rotation, collaborate with central office staff, and work with fellow colleagues in the division.
• Professional Development Involvement: Engage in activities that further develop your skills and knowledge as a person and professional.

• An earned Bachelor's degree by start date.
• At least one year of Housing & Residence Life or Student Affairs experience.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

• Graduate school degree in Student Personnel Administration, Guidance and Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field.
• Relevant experiences such as student conduct experience, crisis/emergency experience, student leadership or advising experience, programming experience.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Experience in community building in a college or university residential setting.
