The Ortho-Surgical Nursing Supervisor plays a pivotal role in overseeing the nursing operations within the orthopedic and surgical departments. This leadership position is essential for ensuring high-quality patient care and effective resource management.
Key Responsibilities:- Collaborate with the department manager to provide clinical leadership and guidance during assigned shifts.
- Ensure optimal staffing levels are maintained in alignment with patient census and acuity, focusing on both clinical and financial considerations.
- Act as a clinical resource for nursing staff, exemplifying professionalism and nursing competencies.
- Address and resolve patient and family concerns, as well as any issues raised by physicians or related to risk management.
- Respond to patient emergencies and lead disaster response efforts as necessary.
- Work closely with the staffing office to adjust nursing staff according to patient needs throughout the shift.
- Facilitate effective communication with the incoming Charge Nurse regarding patient admissions, discharges, and any pertinent information for care assignments.
- Support the management team in maintaining departmental productivity, staffing, and timekeeping.
- Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and necessary disciplinary actions.
- Represent the unit in hospital committees as required.
- Promote the mission and values of Lutheran Medical Center while adhering to service behavior standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, which may include floating to other departments based on operational needs.
Education:
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is essential. Registered Nurses with an ASN/ADN must complete a BSN within four years of hire unless exempted by extensive experience.
Licensure:
A valid Registered Nurse license in the state of practice is mandatory. Current BLS certification is required upon hire or within 60 days.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Nursing and relevant certifications are advantageous.
This role necessitates the ability to see and read patient information, communicate effectively, and perform manual tasks with precision. Regular attendance and the ability to work night shifts are essential.
