Role Summary:
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) plays a crucial role in evaluating selected patients within the designated service area. Responsibilities include conducting physical assessments, engaging with patients both in-person and through electronic means, collaborating with departmental colleagues to ensure a seamless patient care experience, and participating in the overall management of patient care. The NP will report directly to the Chief of the designated service and the Department Manager.
Key Responsibilities:- Adheres to the established procedures for the NP role in line with Kaiser Permanente policies and California Board of Registered Nursing regulations.
- Conducts thorough assessments of patients, including detailed history taking and physical examinations in accordance with departmental protocols.
- Engages in systematic data collection, focusing on various aspects of patient status, including physiological, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive factors; promotes patient and family education and advocacy.
- Consults with supervising physicians or other healthcare professionals as necessary based on patient needs and assessment results.
- Collaborates with physicians and other clinicians to ensure high-quality patient care in the designated service area.
- Reviews medical records for follow-up and ordering of diagnostic tests as per established guidelines.
- Maintains effective communication with other healthcare providers and departments to enhance operational efficiency and ensure continuity of care.
- Builds strong working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and their families, respecting staff rights and cultural beliefs.
- Delegates tasks appropriately and coordinates the activities of healthcare team members, assessing the effectiveness of care provided.
- Demonstrates knowledge of safety protocols and performs efficiently in emergency situations, adhering to established procedures.
- Takes responsibility for personal professional practice and engages in continuous staff development activities.
- Participates in performance improvement initiatives and nursing research as needed, effectively identifying and resolving issues.
- Exhibits a service-oriented approach in all interactions with patients, families, and team members, and demonstrates proficiency in using technology for documentation and communication.
- Completes other related duties as required.
- Minimum of 6 months of experience as a nurse practitioner.
- Two (2) years of experience within the last three (3) years as a NP providing specialized care in an emergency department or urgent care setting.
- Master's Degree in Nursing (unless previously employed by Kaiser Permanente under grandfathered conditions).
- Completion of a Master's Program in Family Practice NP or Acute Care NP is required. If focused on a specific patient population, either Acute Adult NP or Acute Pediatric NP is necessary.

- Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification
- Nurse Practitioner National Certification
- National Provider Identifier required at hire
- Must fulfill credentialing requirements established for nurse practitioners within the Kaiser system.
- Candidates must meet criteria to apply for PTAN (Provider Transaction Account Number) at the time of hire.
