Position Overview

This is a full-time on-site opportunity for a Vision Systems Engineer at Pixels on Target LLC. The Vision Systems Engineer will focus on the development and application of computer vision algorithms, engaging in pattern recognition, vision-guided navigation systems, visual inertial localization, and visual SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping). This role will also involve robotics and data science initiatives aimed at improving our thermal optical offerings, while working in tandem with the team to enhance system performance.

Key Responsibilities:


• Design and refine visual inertial navigation algorithms tailored for aerial vehicles, emphasizing open-source localization and SLAM methodologies.


• Implement and adapt visual inertial navigation frameworks, ensuring smooth integration with current aerial systems and hardware.


• Conduct comprehensive testing and validation of navigation algorithms in practical environments, adjusting parameters and optimizing performance for reliable navigation.


• Assess and select suitable sensors, cameras, IMUs, and other hardware components for visual inertial navigation systems.


• Establish and uphold calibration and synchronization protocols for visual inertial sensor configurations, ensuring precise data fusion and pose estimation.


• Create repeatable testing methodologies to assess the performance and accuracy of the system across various iterations.


• Collaborate with experts in computer vision and robotics to incorporate the latest advancements into visual inertial navigation systems.


• Document and present research findings, technical specifications, and implementation details to both internal and external stakeholders.


• Provide technical support and guidance to cross-functional teams during the deployment of visual inertial navigation systems in real-world applications.

Qualifications:


• A Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline.


• Proven experience in developing and implementing visual inertial navigation systems for aerial vehicles, with a focus on open-source localization and SLAM frameworks.


• In-depth knowledge of computer vision techniques, including feature detection, tracking/matching, bundle adjustment, optical flow, depth estimation, and camera calibration.


• Strong understanding of sensor fusion techniques, particularly in integrating visual and inertial data for accurate pose estimation and localization.


• Expertise in optimization techniques for visual inertial navigation systems.


• Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Python, or MATLAB, along with substantial experience in ROS2 and OpenCV.


• A history of implementing and deploying visual inertial navigation systems on robotic platforms in practical settings.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a capacity to design and evaluate complex algorithms in real-world scenarios.
