Mental Health Association of Nassau County (MHANC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving mental health in our community through advocacy, education, and direct services. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Residential Counselor.

**Job Summary**

The Residential Counselor will provide support and assistance to individuals diagnosed with mental illness residing in homes operated by MHANC. The Counselor will promote independence by assisting with daily activities, personal care, skills building, community integration, and counseling. The position includes weekdays and/or weekends, scheduled by the Program Supervisor.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Implement nutritional components, including shopping, menu planning, and food preparation/clean-up, and dietary needs.
  • Implement activities of daily living.
  • Coordinate care, including psychiatric, medical, dental, etc., and conduct collateral contacts, scheduling, and attend treatment team meetings.
  • Develop service plans to deliver client-centered services, focusing on skills related to independent living, and review plans quarterly.
  • Conduct restorative service sessions and document progress in client charts via electronic records.
  • Manage crises and emergency situations.
  • Implement all facets of the functional program, including program philosophy, goals, and objectives, and adhere to agency and program policies and procedures.
  • Assist with monthly fire drills and ensure compliance with all fire and safety procedures, including periodic evaluation of residents' capability of self-preservation.
  • Coordinate, implement, and provide transportation for recreational activities.
  • Assist with maintenance and upkeep of the residence and property and report concerns accordingly.
  • Conduct and document weekly community meetings with residents to discuss/address issues and/or concerns.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and other training as instructed by Supervisory staff.
  • Work with agents of other departments to assist with coordination of care.
  • Perform related duties as required and necessary.
**Requirements**

  • High School Diploma and five years' experience in human services.
  • Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in a community residence setting preferred.
