Position Overview:
Advocate Aurora Health is in search of an Operating Room Specialist to join our dedicated team.

Key Responsibilities:
As an Operating Room Specialist, you will:
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and efficient environment that promotes optimal patient care.
  • Utilize aseptic techniques to prepare materials, supplies, and equipment for surgical interventions.
  • Assist in gowning and gloving, draping the surgical area, and maintaining a sterile field.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team, passing instruments and supplies as required.
  • Monitor and report any breaches in aseptic technique, ensuring a sterile and unobstructed field.
  • Set up the operating room for various procedures, including moving and operating equipment.
  • Act as a Second Assistant when necessary, supporting the surgical team effectively.
  • Notify relevant personnel of any equipment or supply issues that arise.
  • Transport patients and necessary equipment, ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Maintain specialty carts, checking for completeness and proper working condition.
  • Perform patient positioning and transport duties, adhering to safety protocols.

Qualifications:
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required within a specified timeframe.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program is essential.
  • No prior experience is necessary; we welcome new graduates.

Skills and Abilities:
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
  • Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques and operating room equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Basic proficiency in computer usage.

Physical Requirements:
Candidates must be able to:
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and perform various physical tasks throughout the shift.
  • Work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment as required.
