Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Structural Engineer to join our team at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for performing supervisory professional structural engineering work in connection with the design, layout, and preparation of plans and estimates for structural steel, timber, concrete, and reinforced concrete structures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of subordinate personnel, ensuring high-quality results and effective communication.
  • Prepares and supervises the preparation of structural plans and specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Initiates and responds to correspondence with contractors and other sections during design and construction phases of projects.
  • Prepares cost justification and comparison analysis of alternate plans, making recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Oversees and prepares cost estimates and design calculations for structural components of projects.
  • Checks structural plans and details prepared by others, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Prepares design parameters for structural components of projects, coordinating with other sections.
  • Communicates effectively with staff members from other departments and sections, contractors, and vendors.

Requirements

  • Registration as a Structural Engineer in the State of Illinois.
  • Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in civil or structural engineering and four years of full-time, post-degree structural engineering experience related to the District's activities.
  • Full-time graduate study in the designated fields of engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of service with the District as an Associate Civil Engineer or Associate Structural Engineer.
  • Civil service status in one of the foregoing classifications.
