Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Solar Panel Technician to join our team at Freedom Forever. As a key member of our service team, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance of our residential solar panel systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostic and troubleshooting services on solar panel systems to identify and resolve issues
  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on PV inverters, string boxes, and solar panels
  • Assist in the commissioning of solar arrays and monitoring systems during project installation
  • Install or remove hardware, PV modules, inverters, and monitoring equipment
  • Perform commissioning of inverters and inspection of solar panels
  • Mechanical/structural mounting of racking, modules, and electrical wiring of solar arrays/systems (AC and DC)
  • Respond to corrective maintenance cases on PV inverters, string boxes, and solar panels; this includes troubleshooting, testing, and repairing activities
  • Perform voltage testing using appropriate PPE and procedures
  • Prepare reports to comply with deliverables in O&M contracts
  • Attend mandatory training sessions on new products, installation methodology, maintenance, and safety
  • Maintain adherence to Company policies, environmental health and safety policies, and good housekeeping practices
  • Identify gaps in safety standards and safety risks in the environment and provide recommendations to higher-level technical staff and management
  • Experience working with electrical panels, including sub-panels (conduit bending, relocating circuits, etc.)
  • Experience with monitoring equipment (Cat5, Zigbee, Router, Range Extender, etc.)
  • Understanding of all AHJ guidelines within the region
  • Complete RMA's and log project documentation
  • Understanding of battery backup systems (Enphase, LG, etc.)
  • Experience in electrical troubleshooting (power outage, shorts, faults, etc.)
  • Understanding of standalone metering equipment (CT for production and consumption)
  • May perform required travel for extended periods at a time
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 1+ year solar experience
  • Journeyman Electrician license
  • Experience installing all types of grid-tier inverters and working with various ground and roof mount racking systems
  • Experience in PV component performance, HALT testing, and electrical troubleshooting (power outage, shorts, faults, and ETC)
  • Ability to read and comprehend electrical and mechanical schematics, technical manuals, procedures, and regulations
  • Understanding of NEC (National Electrical Codes) codes that relate to PV installations
  • Good motivation with an attention to productivity, detail, and safety
  • Able to work safely with heights on ladders and in confined areas
  • Be able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment (up to 50 pounds) throughout the workday to complete assigned job tasks
  • Willing and able to climb ladders, stairs, work on rooftops, and able to work on your feet for long periods of time
  • High School Graduate or GED
