About You and This RoleDow's Polyethylene production facility at St. Charles Operations (SCO) is seeking a Senior Production Engineer. The SCO Polyethylene plant operates three production trains.
The Senior Production Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe, stable, and reliable operation of the Production Train by leveraging process knowledge and technical expertise to enhance plant operations, swiftly address plant issues, and facilitate the safe and efficient production of high-quality products. The focus will be on collaborating with stakeholders across Operations, Maintenance, Logistics, R&D, EH&S, and the Tech Center to identify and implement innovative and sustainable solutions that continuously improve the performance of the production trains. This position provides a unique opportunity for an engineer to engage in diverse work assignments while developing both technical and leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and accountability for the success of their assigned unit.
- Exhibit courageous leadership by mentoring, questioning, and intervening when necessary. Challenge existing practices to enhance operational effectiveness and safety.

- Establish metrics and management systems to optimize plant value and EBITDA across all operations.
- Earn the respect and trust of the operations team through exceptional problem-solving skills and technical knowledge.
- Enhance and apply knowledge of plant operations and technology by reviewing historical data and collaborating with subject matter experts.
- Ensure the effective application of Most Effective Technology (MET) and utilize process automation to optimize performance.
- Collaborate with experts for advanced troubleshooting and to enhance operational discipline.
- Identify and document root causes of asset utilization losses.
- Maintain a strong field presence to reinforce the importance of procedural compliance.
- Conduct regular reviews of operational logs and alarms to stay engaged with daily activities.
- Manage and review daily Key Process Indicators (KPI) to ensure optimal performance.
- Respond promptly to plant issues and emergencies, acting as a technical expert during unplanned events.
- Provide leadership and expertise in optimizing plant Raw Material Efficiency, including yield and waste management.
- Ensure compliance with operational permits.
- Contribute to site integration efforts to optimize overall system performance.
- Strong technical and interpersonal skills, along with a proactive attitude, are essential for success in this role.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse teams across multiple functions is crucial, particularly with shift and technical operations teams.
- Willingness to work during off-hours and weekends may be required during plant turnarounds or unexpected events.
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in engineering is required, with a preference for chemical or mechanical engineering.
- At least 2 years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, or a related field is required.
- Experience in a chemical production facility is preferred.
- Experience in plastics manufacturing is also preferred.
- Secondary approver authorization will be required for this role.
- A TWIC card is required or eligibility to obtain one.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Ability to wear safety equipment, including earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
- Capability to use respirators.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting is required.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Climbing stairs and ladders, as well as working at heights, is necessary.
- Standing or walking for extended periods is expected.
- Domestic relocation assistance may be available based on eligibility.
