Electrical Substation Design Engineer

Actalent is seeking a skilled Electrical Substation Design Engineer to design and develop equipment and layouts for 12-69kV projects in the military or utility sectors.

The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of electrical interconnects, transformers, short circuit studies, breakers, and equipment layout. Familiarity with SDG&E or SCE standards and procedures is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Engineer medium and high voltage substation projects from conceptual design through construction.
  • Prepare electrical physical design packages, including One-line, Site Plan, Electrical Plan & Sections, Grounding Plan & Details, Conduit Plan and Details, Control House Plan, Control House Grounding Plan & Details, Lighting Plan, Lightning Protection Plan, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Coordinate with Designers and Engineers of other disciplines to complete deliverables.
  • Interpret and incorporate vendor information into design deliverables.
  • Perform QA/QC of electrical engineering design packages.
  • Provide regular progress updates and reporting on project deliverables.
  • Provide engineering and technical support and reviews to field crews during construction.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors of Electrical Engineering Degree
  • Physical substation design experience for equipment inside the substation
  • Knowledge of equipment and electrical interconnects, transformers, short circuit studies, breakers, & equipment layout
  • Familiarity with SDG&E and/or SCE standards and procedures
