School Nurse Position

Stafford County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Nurse to join our team.
About the RoleThe School Nurse will provide health services and leadership in establishing a complete and effective program of school health. This includes providing health services to students, interpreting state and federal regulations, and maintaining a school health record for each student.
Key Responsibilities- Provide health services to students, including providing nursing intervention for acute illness and injury, and supporting student health needs for returning to class.
- Interpret state and federal regulations regarding health requirements and immunization documentation for all new students.
- Maintain a school health record for each student based on best practice, SCPS Health Services protocols, and State Standards for Accreditation for Public Schools in Virginia.
- Supervise and document medication/treatment administration in accordance with the Virginia Department of Education guidelines and SCPS Health Services protocols.
- Administer individual screening of vision, hearing, and scoliosis, and evaluate, refer, and follow-up as required by Virginia school law and School Board regulations.
- Make home visits in conjunction with other support staff to assist with health-related absentee problems when appropriate.
- Protect the health of students and staff by controlling disease outbreak and spread of communicable diseases through enforcement of health practices, health department protocols, and school policies.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a graduate of an accredited program of registered nursing and hold a current license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Two (2) years successful nursing experience, with pediatric and community health experience preferred.
- Valid Virginia Driver's License.
- Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED required.
The work environment is primarily inside, with moderate noise, temperatures that are controlled but may require some exposure to weather, and some exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements. The work is medium work, requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
