Position Overview
The Inpatient Pharmacist plays a crucial role in ensuring optimal medication therapy within a collaborative healthcare environment. This position involves the preparation, dispensing, and verification of medications for assigned patients, employing safe and effective therapeutic decision-making processes. Responsibilities include assessing and monitoring patient drug therapies, providing drug information, and delivering clinical pharmacy services.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate physician orders through comprehensive clinical assessments, considering factors such as allergies, age, renal function, concurrent medications, lab results, approved dosing guidelines, and overall clinical status.
- Ensure the safe and precise preparation and dispensing of medications, including sterile products and investigational drugs, adhering to quality assurance standards.
- Manage drug therapy to enhance patient outcomes, documenting interventions, adverse drug reactions, and patient education efforts.
- Maintain professional knowledge and licensure through ongoing education and training.
- Oversee pharmacy operations in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Adapt communication and service delivery to meet the specific needs of diverse patient populations.
Qualifications
Education:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.
Preferred: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D).
Experience:
Required: None.
Certifications:
Required: Current Pharmacy license in the state of practice.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient in computer applications and data entry.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting information clearly to various audiences.
- Ability to compound pharmaceuticals and operate technical equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
Physical and Environmental Demands
This role requires the ability to exert moderate physical effort, including lifting and moving objects. The pharmacist must be able to stoop, bend, reach, and possess manual dexterity. Flexibility in work schedule is essential.
