JOB SUMMARY
The Outpatient Services / PACU Nurse plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe preparation, education, and discharge of patients undergoing procedures. This position encompasses assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patients in outpatient services, pre-operative, post-operative, PACU, and procedural sedation settings. The nurse must exhibit the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients in their assigned unit.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a current Wyoming license as a Registered Professional Nurse. National perioperative certification is preferred.
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 2 years of experience in an acute care or surgical services environment is preferred.
SKILLS
Proficient understanding of perioperative and post-anesthesia care nursing principles; knowledge of aseptic techniques and infection control practices. Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications are mandatory. TNCC certification is required within 6 months of hire, or as class availability permits.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Deliver direct patient care, assess outcomes, and modify the nursing care process as necessary to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Conduct focused assessments and reassessments, including pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and general patient populations.
- Monitor patients' hemodynamic status and accurately interpret results.
- Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identify arrhythmias, and intervene using ACLS and PALS protocols and physician orders.
- Prepare patients for examinations or procedures and assist physicians as required.
- Maintain precise and ongoing nursing documentation, including patient history, condition, vital signs, treatments, responses to interventions, and changes in status.
- Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity, acting as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers.
- Educate patients based on identified learning needs; assess the effectiveness of patient education and involve families as appropriate. Review discharge instructions with patients or responsible parties.
- Stay informed about medications and their proper administration based on age and clinical condition. Calculate, prepare, administer, and monitor IV fluids and medication drips.
- Perform treatments and procedures as directed, within the scope of training and capabilities.
- Ensure cleanliness and readiness of all rooms and work areas.
- Verify that supplies are adequately stocked and organized.
- Complete departmental tasks, monthly outdates, and compliance checks as scheduled.
- Communicate any questions or concerns through the appropriate channels.
- Assist in orienting new employees to the department.
- Supervise nursing students, providing opportunities for observation and learning.
- Participate in mandatory in-service training, annual education days, and departmental meetings. Enhance professional development by attending educational offerings related to Perioperative Nursing.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth patient transfers.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned or requested.
