Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Care Staff to join our team at Sierra Vista Child & Family Services in Modesto, CA. As a Direct Care Staff, you will play a vital role in providing nurturing and structure to children in need.

Shift Details: Graveyard shifts are available, with the opportunity to work between 10:00pm-8:00am. A shift differential will be provided in addition to your base rate.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma and experience in care and education of children.
  2. Must be at least 22 years old.
  3. Ability to work as a team member.
  4. A valid California driver's license with less than two minor moving violations is required for staff with driving duties.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Physical capability to restrain children, lift over 20 pounds, and engage in physical activity.
  2. Develop effective and meaningful relationships with children.
  3. Learn and apply techniques of childcare and treatment.
  4. Work effectively and cooperatively with staff and administration.
  5. Use personal skills and interests to facilitate group and individual programs.
  6. Know and understand needs of children and/or disturbed children and group interaction of children.
  7. Be open and flexible to change.
  8. Patient, tact, consistency, self-awareness, directness, and warmth are essential job functions.
  9. Sound personal qualifications, including maturity, stability, high moral standards, and sound mental health and physical ability to perform job duties.

Responsibilities:

  1. Set limits and appropriate consequences for the child and/or group.
  2. Facilitate individual and group controls.
  3. Be familiar with philosophy, methodology, and procedures of the treatment program and treatment-oriented functions as directed by senior or clinical staff.
  4. Carry out individualized plans and work toward objectives agreed upon by clinical staff and/or placement worker.
  5. Assist in resolving group and/or individual conflicts.
  6. Assist in school and/or learning programs.
  7. Safeguard the dignity of each child and protect the rights and individuality of each child.
  8. Attend all in-service training programs.
  9. Utilize recreation as the therapeutic aid.
  10. Observe behavior, interactions, and individual needs of each child and report these to appropriate staff through written records.
  11. Be familiar with and utilize properly agency forms, ledgers, and logs in accordance with governing procedures.
  12. Transport children in agency transportation to arranged outings.
  13. Provide daily supervision of each child's current health needs and record daily health status of each child.
  14. Follow all state and other applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  15. Responsible for preventing and controlling infection.
  16. Responsible for maintaining a culture of quality and safety.
  17. Effectively use de-escalation skills and techniques for crisis prevention.
  18. Properly administer the C-SSRS to help prevent suicide.
  19. Effectively use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention techniques for crisis prevention and/or intervention.
  20. Properly administer medication for the therapeutic treatment of clients.
