Barback Job Description

At TableOne Hospitality, we are seeking a skilled Barback to join our team at Bar Sprezzatura in the Kimpton Theta Hotel, New York, NY. As a Barback, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our bar, providing exceptional service to our guests, and supporting our bartenders in all aspects of drink preparation and service.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist bartenders with drink preparation, including mixing, garnishing, and serving beverages.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of the bar area, including equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Ensure proper stock levels of all items and products in designated work areas.
  • Set up, label, stock, and deliver alcohol, non-alcoholic beverages, supplies, glasses, paper products, garnishes, and ice.
  • Clean and polish glassware, and ensure equipment is in working order.
  • Perform opening and closing duties based on shift assignment.
  • Resolve guest complaints within scope of authority, and refer matters to management as needed.
  • Execute and facilitate service in cooperation with other Barbacks, bartenders, and managers.
  • Welcome guests and ensure they receive responsive, professional, and gracious service at all times.
  • Answer questions about the menu, specific food items, the wine list, or any other inquiries guests may have.
  • Understand changes in the menu, dietary restrictions, food allergies, etc.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment at all times in the bar.
  • Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, county, and municipal regulations pertaining to health, safety, and serving alcohol.
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of high-volume restaurant/bar experience.
  • Knowledge of menu items, including mixing and serving beverages, standard beverage recipes, preparation methods, glassware, garnishes, products, menu items, supplies, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of computers and Point of Sale (POS) systems.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
  • Able to effectively communicate in English, in both written and verbal forms.
  • Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all business contacts.
  • Cleanliness, organization, and the ability to work well in a team situation are crucial to this position.
  • Must be of minimum age to serve alcohol.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Applicants must possess a strong dedication towards learning, and motivation to progress in a fine dining environment.
  • Must be impeccably groomed, maintain good hygiene, good posture, and have required uniform and tools.
  • Responsive to constructive feedback from Management.
