Salary and Benefits

The successful candidate can expect a competitive salary ranging from $138,000 to $165,000 USD annually, depending on experience. Job Description

This role requires a self-driven and detail-oriented individual to join our solid-state thermal battery systems engineering team. The ideal candidate will work closely with the R&D Test team to operate, automate, and maintain high-value experiments on Antora's full-scale thermal energy storage modules and test equipment. This critical work contributes directly to the commercialization of a first-of-a-kind long-duration energy storage technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and operate high-value sensing, instrumentation, and control schemes for custom test rigs at Antora's R&D hub in San Jose, CA.
  • Operate and develop systems to automate high-power (hundreds of kW to MW) and high-temperature (>2000C) R&D test equipment, including creating standard operating procedures, test recipes, and other key documents to standardize test operations.
  • Collaborate with the controls team to redline instrumentation lists and wiring diagrams, as well as write, test, and maintain controls algorithms and software.
  • Provide critical design feedback to the mechanical design team.
  • Work with the mechanical, electrical, controls, and technology development teams to interpret product development goals and translate them into high-value experiments.
  • Maintain a high level of safety awareness and implement critical safety interlocks into controls schemes.
  • Work with a high degree of autonomy while remaining open to delivering and receiving feedback.
Qualifications and Requirements

The ideal candidate should possess 5+ years of experience as a test, test automation, field, or controls engineer for high-temperature, high-power industrial systems. A solid understanding of engineering physics fundamentals, hands-on experience with capital equipment, and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems are essential. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also necessary, as the candidate will be working closely with cross-functional teams.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with common industrial communication protocols.
  • Proficiency in programmable logic controllers and ladder logic.
  • Familiarity with process diagrams and fluidic and thermal systems.
  • Strong data post-processing skills using tools like MATLAB.
  • Comfortable providing and receiving directions and feedback from engineers and technicians across the organization.

Please note that this position is based in San Jose, CA, and the selected candidate must be willing to work flexible hours to accommodate test priorities, including night and weekend shifts.
