Charlotte, North Carolina, United States Sargent & Lundy Full time

Piping Engineering & Analysis Overview

The Piping Engineering & Analysis team conducts assessments for piping systems following the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.7, and other relevant standards applicable to the specific evaluations undertaken. This discipline also addresses specialized topics, including:
  • Monitoring and analyzing vibrations to assess operational vibrations related to plant modifications and operational events, while providing solutions and designs for vibration prevention and mitigation.
  • Assessing hydraulic transients, analyzing piping systems for thermal stratification impacts, conducting operability evaluations, and qualifying piping for hydrodynamic loads.
  • Evaluating pipe ruptures, assessing pipe wall thinning due to flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) or microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC), and conducting pipe flaw assessments.
Role-Specific Responsibilities

This position involves providing advanced technical direction and oversight to project team members within the discipline. The role includes establishing project task timelines and budgets to align with overall project objectives. It requires coordinating activities across various disciplines and ensuring the successful delivery of project outputs that meet all technical, quality, and project control standards. The individual will act as a technical liaison with clients and serve as a primary technical resource on projects.

Senior engineers are tasked with supporting engineering design initiatives through the following responsibilities:
    • Reviewing intricate calculations and approving straightforward ones. Offering technical guidance to project team members while ensuring calculations are robust and comply with project specifications.
    • Reviewing and endorsing simple system/structural designs and preparing complex system/structural designs to guarantee completeness, accuracy, quality, constructability, and operability.
    • Conducting engineering reviews of drawings. Evaluating design inputs for complex systems/structures and defining client expectations for drawings. Facilitating the interface between design and engineering while actively participating in design reviews to ensure quality, constructability, and operability.
    • Preparing and reviewing major system, installation, and material specifications. Outlining technical and commercial requirements, including scheduling vendor submittals necessary for design input.
    • Conducting bid evaluations for complex systems and installation scopes. Engaging in bid negotiations with vendors and possibly assessing change orders on behalf of the client.
    • Preparing and reviewing detailed single-discipline reports/studies and contributing to multi-discipline reports. Reviewing studies and reports to ensure that conclusions are technically sound, cost-effective, and clearly articulated.
This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring in-office attendance three days per week.
