Staff Attorney

Bet Tzedek Legal Services is seeking a dedicated and experienced Staff Attorney to join our Eviction Defense Project (EDP). As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality, free legal services to Los Angeles' most vulnerable residents.
Key Responsibilities- Litigate eviction cases, including interviewing clients, drafting court forms and pleadings, engaging in discovery practice, and representing clients in Los Angeles County Courthouses.
- Perform case management duties, including maintaining case files and providing counsel and advice to clients on a wide variety of legal issues.
- Collaborate with Development Staff to meet all relevant grant reporting requirements and assist with trainings, know-your-rights presentations, and outreach events on issues related to housing.
- Work with volunteer attorneys and students to provide limited scope representation to clients and co-counsel with pro bono volunteers to represent clients in eviction cases and other housing matters.
- Active member of the California State Bar in good standing.
- Minimum four years of eviction defense litigation experience, with jury trial experience strongly preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, with a strong preference for candidates who can communicate effectively with clients and colleagues in both languages.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and travel within Los Angeles County, including with a private vehicle and valid California driver's license.
- Exceptionally organized, self-motivated, and goal-oriented, with a willingness to train and work with volunteer attorneys and students.
