Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Investigator to conduct complex fire and explosion investigations, applying knowledge of fire science and investigative techniques to determine the origin and cause of fires. As a Fire Investigator, you will work closely with our team to identify potential risks and combat fraudulent practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-complexity fire and explosion investigations, including managing additional investigative experts as needed.
  • Apply thorough knowledge of fire scene safety and potential hazards during investigations.
  • Use critical thinking techniques to dismantle complex problems and reason through to logical conclusions.
  • Prepare and provide accurate technical documentation of fire or explosion investigations.
  • Collect, identify, and safeguard evidence and chain of custody necessary to determine origin and cause of fire claims.
  • Analyze and convey highly technical information into actionable investigative strategies.
  • Participate in legal proceedings as a certified technical expert.
  • Provide primary technical support to field offices on fire and explosion incidents.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with local, state, and federal organizations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to business partners and customers throughout the life of each investigation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in fire science or fire investigations.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 921 and NFPA 1033 guidelines/standards and knowledge of rules of evidence, procedural law, and other protocols and regulations governing this discipline.
  • Knowledgeable of local and federal fire statutes.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to use and interpret information and facts.
  • Communication skills necessary to communicate opinions and findings.
  • Leadership and coaching skills.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking techniques to investigation review.
  • Self-motivated individual with significant planning and goal-setting skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a remote team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nationally Certified Fire Investigator or member of the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI).
  • Internationally Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator with the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI).
  • Valid driver's license.
