Job Summary:

As a Supervising Fish and Wildlife Biologist with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, you will play a critical role in protecting and enhancing Oregon's fish and wildlife resources. This position requires a strong background in fish and wildlife management, as well as excellent leadership and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct and conduct all wildlife management programs within the Douglas Watershed District
  • Supervise a team of four full-time employees, including a district biologist
  • Conduct wildlife population inventory, planning, damage control, and habitat protection activities
  • Interact with the public, private landowners, county, state, and federal land managers
Working Conditions:
  • Travel by air, foot, or vehicle through isolated, rugged terrain
  • Work days in excess of eight hours and work weeks in excess of 40 hours
  • Exposure to all types of inclement weather
  • Driving under hazardous road conditions and handling of wild animals
  • Public contacts may include confused or contentious individuals
Requirements:
  • Three years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program
  • At least one year of experience at a technical or professional level performing activities in a fish or wildlife program
  • Bachelor's degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related degree with at least 45 quarter hours of biological/ecological coursework
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working on agency committees to develop staff proposals or agency positions
  • Experience performing data analysis using a variety of statistical tools
  • Experience working with wildlife damage complaints/public safety complaints
