Job Summary

The Department of Mental Health is seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist I to join our team. As an Occupational Therapist I, you will be responsible for providing occupational therapy services to patients with serious mental illness. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that promote autonomy, safety, and return to the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer occupational therapy assessments to identify functional skills, strengths, and limitations of patients.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that promote autonomy, safety, and return to the community.
  • Provide active occupational therapy treatment on assigned units, including weekend and evening shifts.
  • Design and facilitate group programs that include skill building, psychoeducational, leisure, and vocational activities.
  • Coordinate with unit-based leadership teams and staff to ensure group programs are organized, attended, and consistently held.
Requirements
  • Proficiency in the theory, principles, and practices of occupational therapy.
  • Knowledge of treatment methods, techniques, and procedures used in occupational therapy.
  • Expertise in diagnostic and prognostic testing relative to occupational therapy.
  • Expertise in human anatomy and physiology as applied to occupational therapy.
  • Familiarity with equipment and materials used in providing occupational therapy.
  • Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of occupational therapy data, to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with adults living with severe and persistent mental illness on inpatient psychiatric services.
  • Familiarity and comfort working with multidisciplinary teams to analyze complex problems, build consensus, and implement organizational improvements.
  • Excellent organizational and writing skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and demonstrated effective communication skills.
  • Bilingual or multilingual fluency, given the population served.
