Position Title

PATIENT SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE

Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Patient Service Representative plays a crucial role in managing Inpatient and Outpatient registrations within the Health System. This position involves ensuring accurate patient identification, demographic data, and financial information to facilitate a seamless registration process. A key responsibility includes handling point-of-service collections as necessary while consistently delivering exceptional customer service to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Demonstrate the professional, clinical, and technical competencies required for the assigned department.
  • Monitor daily schedules for patient arrivals to ensure efficient processing.
  • Admit and register both scheduled and unscheduled patients, including those requiring urgent care.
  • Conduct bedside admissions for patients directly admitted to the unit when necessary.
  • Verify patient identification to ensure the accuracy of demographic and insurance information, entering data into the system with precision.
  • Welcome patients and their relatives, conducting interviews to gather or confirm essential information.
  • Collect co-payments or deposits as appropriate for services rendered.
  • Balance cash drawers as part of end-of-day procedures.
  • Explain facility policies and ensure that patients and relatives understand and sign consent forms and insurance documents at the appropriate times.
  • Adhere to Medicare/Medicaid and other insurance regulations.
  • Complete the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire as required for admissions.
  • Participate in training and educational sessions relevant to the role to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Manage the inventory and release of patient valuables placed in safekeeping, following departmental policies.
  • Provide coverage in all areas of admitting as needed, adhering to established guidelines.
  • Maintain knowledge of administrative policies, departmental procedures, and required admission and insurance documentation.
  • Perform additional duties or projects as assigned by management, which may include special projects, telephone coverage, filing, scanning, and copying.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • One or more years of experience in clerical, registration, or customer service roles within a healthcare environment.
