A crucial aspect of this mission involves developing data-driven algorithms and systems that empower our creators within Netflix studios to produce content both effectively and efficiently.
The Studio Media Algorithms team leads the charge in algorithmic advancements, enhancing and supporting the creation of films, television series, games, and other multimedia content. Our work unlocks new creative avenues for storytellers while optimizing the content creation process, ultimately bringing joy to viewers worldwide.
Your Role
We are in search of a Research Scientist with proven expertise in deep machine learning and proficiency in one or more areas such as computer vision (CV), natural language processing (NLP), and computer graphics (CG). You will engage in researching and developing algorithms and models that enhance the tools utilized by content creators throughout the production lifecycle, including visual effects (VFX), animation, and gaming. In this position, you will:
- Design, implement, and assess algorithmic solutions for a variety of challenges in the VFX, animation, and gaming sectors, advancing the state of the art in CG and CV as necessary.
- Develop foundational machine learning models and methodologies with broad applications, contributing to our core focus areas in media algorithms.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, scientists, artists, and product leaders to identify and prioritize opportunities and problem requirements.
- Contribute insights to the design of our AI platform.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should possess:
- Research experience with a solid track record of delivering high-quality results and/or academic publications in leading ML, CV, CG, or NLP venues.
- Expertise in designing and training deep learning architectures for media comprehension and generation, along with a comprehensive understanding of deep learning methods and literature.
- Familiarity with contemporary computer graphics techniques.
- Strong mathematical abilities, including knowledge of statistical methods and optimization.
- Extensive experience with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Proficient programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with both technical and non-technical partners.
- An advanced degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional desirable experience includes:
- Innovative work with modern generative methods and their foundational components.
- Domain expertise in visual effects, gaming, or animation, with a proven history of developing tools/solutions in these or closely related fields.
- Experience with computer graphics and VFX tools and game engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity, Autodesk Maya, or Nuke.
- Knowledge of 3D vision and reconstruction.
Compensation and Benefits
Our compensation structure is based solely on an annual salary, without bonuses. Each year, you can choose how much of your compensation you wish to allocate to salary versus stock options. We determine your competitive compensation based on market indicators, considering your specific job family, background, skills, and experience. The compensation range for this role is between $170,000 and $720,000. Netflix offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health plans, mental health support, a 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching, stock option programs, disability programs, health savings and flexible spending accounts, family-forming benefits, and life and serious injury benefits. We also provide paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off, which can be used for vacation, holidays, and sick leave.
