Role Summary
The Maintenance Operations Manager will report directly to the Plant Engineering Manager. This role is pivotal in enhancing the skill set of the maintenance team, offering technical assistance for plant machinery, and upgrading plant automation systems by identifying outdated components and systems. Additionally, this position will support the Plant Engineering Manager in executing various plant projects. During the absence of the Plant Engineering Manager, the Maintenance Operations Manager will take on their responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the maintenance team, which includes:
- Automation/Control Technician - Direct Report
- Project Technical Lead Technician - Direct Report
- Maintenance Planner - Direct Report
- Facility Maintenance Lead Technician - Functional Report
- Engineering/Troubleshooter Technician - Functional Report
- Identify and implement strategic opportunities for maintenance process enhancements.
- Assist in the development and execution of Control Plans for new projects, focusing on criticality, preventive maintenance, spare parts, quality, maintainability, and operability.
- Evaluate existing assets to identify and address systemic performance issues.
- Collaborate with the Plant Engineering Manager to investigate long-term maintenance equipment challenges and implement effective solutions.
- Support budgeting and forecasting for maintenance expenditures.
- Provide technical support for operations and maintenance, including troubleshooting and spare parts management.
- Develop and implement industry best practices.
- Create, execute, and audit plant-wide Standard Operating and Maintenance Procedures.
- Utilize analytical and engineering skills to minimize recurring equipment failures.
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing process to assess its impact on plant assets.
- Assist the Plant Engineering Manager in formulating training plans to enhance the maintenance team's skill set.
- Manage administrative tasks, including tracking departmental KPIs, maintaining essential records, and providing historical equipment cost data.
- Adjust daily schedules in collaboration with the Plant Engineering Manager and Maintenance Supervisors as necessary.
- Provide data and reports to the Plant Engineering Manager upon request.
- Act as the on-site Factorygram administrator, responsible for system maintenance and data integrity.
- Ensure compliance with USDA regulations for all equipment and facility infrastructure.
- Support the safety program by providing necessary resources for work order support, facility code compliance, and adherence to OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Complete special projects and assignments as directed by the Plant Engineering Manager.
- Serve as the acting Plant Engineering Manager in their absence.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Automation Engineering.
- A minimum of two years of industrial experience in a food manufacturing setting, with a strong ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and utility system issues.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Familiarity with AutoCAD.
- Expertise in Allen-Bradley automation control platforms, including PLCs, HMIs, and Drives.
- Knowledge of Siemens automation control platforms is advantageous.
- Experience in food manufacturing maintenance is highly beneficial.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in high-pressure environments and adapt to unexpected changes.
