Job Summary:

The Mental Health Support Specialist provides care, support, and supervision to patients on an Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit at the University of Florida Health. This role requires working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) to ensure the provision of quality patient care.

About the Role:
This position involves monitoring all patients, providing direct care, and ensuring their safety. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting routine checks, monitoring the environment, and recognizing changes in patients' moods, affects, or conditions. They will also assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers, obtain and document vital signs and weight accurately, and report abnormal results to the nurse.

Responsibilities:
• Monitor patients and provide direct care
• Ensure patient safety by completing routine checks and monitoring the environment
• Recognize and report changes in patients' moods, affects, or conditions
• Assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers
• Obtain and document vital signs and weight accurately
• Report abnormal results to the nurse
• Assist patients with feeding, personal care, and hygiene
• Utilize established aggression control techniques to intervene with patients in crisis
• Supervise family visitation and respond appropriately to concerns
• Orient new patients to the unit and program rules

Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days of employment
• Completion of WELLE training within 90 days of employment and annual re-certification thereafter
• Level 2 DCF Background Screening upon hire

Salary: $40,000 - $55,000 per year based on experience.
