Job Summary:We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Special Education Teacher to work with students in a middle school setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to team participation, planning, and implementation of student programs.
Responsibilities:- Develop and implement individualized education plans in consultation with parents and department team members
- Support students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities
- Design instruction that parallels the general education curriculum
- Assist parents, administrators, and other professionals in developing educational plans
- Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities
- Coordinate individualized education program (IEP) implementation with general education staff
- Monitor student progress and participate in review and revision of student IEPs
- Maintain accurate student records
- Mentor and support teaching assistants
- Support students in preparation for grade transitions and life skills
- Assess students' skills and educational needs
- Communicate with parents and other stakeholders
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
- Valid state teaching certificate
- Minimum of one year experience in teaching environment
- State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching, Standard Secondary Teaching, or Standard Special Teaching
- Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals
- Computer proficiency required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
