Job Overview
POSITION SUMMARY
The role involves establishing a secure school crossing area and aiding students in safely navigating streets during school hours.
SUPERVISION
Works under the general oversight of a designated department head.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Setting up the school crossing zone by positioning warning cones as needed. Wearing a safety vest and having a handheld stop sign readily available.
- Safely escorting children across the street as they arrive, monitoring traffic closely, and stopping vehicles when necessary.
- Repeating this process multiple times throughout the day, as required, during school arrival and dismissal.
- Acting as a point of contact between students, parents, school officials, and the Parent-Teacher Association.
- Carrying out additional tasks as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
Understanding of safe work practices and safety equipment.
Abilities:
Familiarity with traffic regulations, emergency protocols, and proficiency in the English language. Significant responsibility for the care and condition of materials and tools; high responsibility for exercising judgment in ensuring the safe crossing of children.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including proper grammar and spelling; ability to follow both written and verbal instructions; capability to work well with children, parents, and school staff.
Sound judgment regarding traffic patterns, speed, and direction; ability to prioritize tasks; regular use of safety equipment such as handheld stop signs, reflective vests, and cones.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent is required.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Conditions:
Fieldwork that may involve exposure to various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and wet environments, as well as potential physical hazards.
Physical Requirements:
Essential functions necessitate maintaining physical stamina for extended periods of walking and standing. Must possess normal hearing and vision capabilities, with or without corrective measures.
