Nursing Department Supervisor

About the Role:
The Nurse Supervisor oversees the planning and supervision of direct care nursing staff, ensuring exceptional client care excellence and standards of practice in the nursing department. This involves managing coverage needs related to acuity, absences, and leave time.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide, delegate, coordinate, and evaluate patient care through collaborative efforts with team members and in accordance with the nursing process and standards of care.
- Assist in updating and revising the plan of care as goals/objectives are met or when the patient's condition changes.
- Ensure all patients receive a comprehensive nursing assessment within eight hours of admission, admitting physician orders completed, and care plan initiated.
- Coordinate nursing, medical, and/or behavioral health care activities with all staff to ensure smooth coordination of efforts during shared shifts.
- Perform storage, accounting for, and administration of medications/medical equipment, removing nonfunctioning equipment and initiating needed replacements.
- Provide professional and administrative leadership to staff.
- Rounds are performed on all inpatient treatment units to provide monitoring, supervision, direction, and assistance as needed.
- Schedule staff to ensure full coverage at all times, accurately following established guidelines and unit needs.
- Admission intake assessments must be completed accurately and followed up per Hospital policy, providing referrals as needed or assisting with admissions.
- Participate in interviewing, orienting, mentoring, retaining, and training of staff as needed.
- Document medical, behavioral health information, and nursing care.
- Administer medications and maintain records according to company policies and procedures.
- Provide structure and maintain a therapeutic environment in collaboration with patients and other care providers.
- Coordinate with Human Resources to review staff timecards for payroll pre-processing to ensure accurate employee worked hours.
- Ensure adequate inventory of supplies is maintained for units, completing purchase order requests as needed.
- Collect and organize the Medication Administration Record (MAR) and Destruction of Medication Log upon patient discharge, submitted by Nurses.
- Address employee performance improvement issues timely and assist with follow-up as necessary.
- Assist in collecting data to develop Quality Improvement reports and graphs.
- May work a shift on a specific unit when all other efforts in filling the shift have been exhausted.
Education/Experience/Skill Requirements:
- Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- Three or more years' experience as a RN required.
- Three or more years' in behavioral health experience preferred.
Salary Range: $75,000 - $95,000 annually based on qualifications and experience.
