Job Overview
Barnes & Noble College serves as a retail collaborator for numerous educational institutions across the nation. We provide a unique shopping experience that emphasizes essential academic materials, tools, and merchandise within a vibrant retail setting on college campuses. Our staff engages directly with a diverse clientele, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the general public, to deliver exceptional customer service while facilitating the sale or rental of books, general merchandise, and a variety of products and services tailored for the academic community.
Our bookstores stock a wide range of items, from textbooks and trade publications to technology, school supplies, apparel, regalia, and food—catering to the needs of college students, their families, and faculty members. Part-time roles necessitate regular weekly availability, including occasional weekends, with flexible scheduling options for morning, midday, or evening shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome customers, respond to inquiries, and assist with the purchase of products or services.
- Organize, shelve, and maintain the store's merchandise to ensure an inviting sales environment.
- Process sales transactions using cash, credit, or financial aid payments.
- Temporary positions require weekly availability for a limited duration, including occasional weekends, with flexible scheduling for various shifts.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent movement throughout the store to access different departments and products.
- Ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
- Regular lifting of merchandise.
- Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
COVID-19 Considerations:
Our stores adhere to all relevant federal, state, and local guidelines regarding social distancing and sanitization. Depending on campus policies, positions may require proof of vaccination. Wearing face masks may also be necessary during work hours.
Qualifications:
- Applicants must be at least 16 years old to qualify for temporary positions.
- Energetic and friendly demeanor, with strong communication skills to engage with a diverse audience.
- Exceptional customer service abilities to connect customers with products that fulfill their needs.
- Basic skills in mathematics, typing, and data entry.
- Flexibility in scheduling is essential.
