Job Title: Battalion Chief

This is a promotional opportunity for current regular and probationary employees of Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading a team of firefighters and emergency medical technicians in responding to emergency situations and providing fire and rescue services to the community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond to emergency calls and incidents, including fires, medical emergencies, and other hazardous situations.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of firefighters and emergency medical technicians, ensuring that they are properly trained and equipped to respond to emergencies.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures to ensure the safety of personnel and the public.
  • Conduct inspections and investigations to identify potential fire hazards and ensure compliance with fire codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other emergency services agencies and organizations to ensure effective emergency response and coordination.
Requirements:
  • Current Maryland certification as EMT-B, EMT-I, or EMT-P.
  • Successful completion of the most recent DFRS annual Compliance Training.
  • Possession of a valid class B driver's license and Frederick County Employee Driving Permit.
  • Current certification as NFPA 1021 – Fire Officer III (MFSPQB or NFSPQB).
  • Current certification as NFPA 472 - HazMat Incident Commander.
  • Successful completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) ICS 400.
  • Current satisfactory performance evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively perform at command level responding quickly, decisively, calmly, and appropriately in standard duty and emergency situations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of modern pre-hospital emergency medical care, firefighting equipment and apparatus, rescue and firefighting tactics and techniques, building construction, fire and injury prevention methodology, disaster management, and other areas pertinent to DFRS operations.
  • Ability to effectively apply knowledge of organizational and personnel management as well as DFRS policies, including the ability to effectively implement positive and negative discipline in a direct and timely manner in enforcing DFRS policies, procedures, and regulations.
