This role presents a unique opportunity to become part of a reputable Orthopaedic practice in a prime location, with potential for career advancement through our structured Medical Assistant Career Ladder.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the transmission of patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations.
- Gather lab and imaging reports, hospital documentation, and referral details. Complete necessary forms and manage appointment scheduling while verifying insurance information and patient details.
- Prepare examination rooms and set up medical instruments according to established protocols. Ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance of equipment and rooms to uphold infection control standards.
- Facilitate patient flow by checking schedules and assisting patients with mobility, dressing, and specimen collection. Document patient history and vital signs, and provide instructions to patients and their families.
- Handle incoming calls and provide essential information, including patient education as required.
- Perform basic laboratory tests, EKGs, and assist with clinical procedures as per established guidelines. Accurately document patient interactions in medical records.
- Adhere to the standards set by regulatory agencies, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with UPMC Health System policies.
- Under physician supervision, administer injections and vaccines when appropriate.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. Candidates should possess basic computer skills and familiarity with medical terminology and clinical responsibilities.
Certifications Required:
CPR certification based on AHA standards is required within the first month of employment, along with the following clearances:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
- Act 33
- Act 34
- Act 73 FBI Clearance
