We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team at the North Carolina Community Health Center Association. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients of all age groups and physical conditions, maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, CLIA, and other applicable standards.
Key Responsibilities- Collect blood specimens from patients using venipuncture or capillary technique
- Label and prepare specimens for transport to the laboratory
- Verify client/patient test orders and billing information
- Perform clerical duties, including maintaining records and generating reports
- Maintain inventory levels and ensure the collection site is clean and organized
- Collect unobserved urine specimens and follow chain of custody protocol
- Assist with patient preparation and examination
- Assist with cleaning and sterilizing instruments and equipment
- Perform fingerstick hgb & lead, urine analysis, and UCG's
- Assist with packaging of lab specimens for outside reference labs
- Convey lab results to providers and prepare reports
- Excellent knowledge of specimen handling needs and procedures
- Proficient in drawing blood from all age groups
- At least one year of phlebotomy experience
- Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports, and communicate with patients and family members
- Ability to operate basic office equipment and computer software
The work environment is moderate, with occasional exposure to blood and bodily fluids. The successful candidate must be able to lift and move patients of varying weight and work effectively in stressful conditions.
