Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Medical Assistant, Certified to join our team at Duke Health Integrated Practice. As an integral member of our healthcare team, you will provide direct and indirect care to patients, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine administrative and patient care supportive duties to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients.
  • Administrative duties may include answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patient medical records, filling out insurance forms, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, arranging for hospital admissions, laboratory services, and billing and bookkeeping.
  • Clinic duties may include taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examinations and procedures, assisting the physician during examinations and procedures, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, performing basic laboratory tests, disposing of contaminated supplies, sterilizing medical instruments, and promoting patient/family understanding of the educational content and their involvement in the plan of care.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician, authorize drug refills, telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy, draw blood, prepare patients for x-rays, tests, and procedures, take electrocardiograms, remove sutures/staples, change sterile and non-sterile dressings, and perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred.
  • High school or GED graduation is required.
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA is required.
  • BLS is required.
  • Level I - No experience is required.
  • Level II - 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting is required.
