Job Summary

The Director of Philanthropy is a key member of the fundraising team at Canopy Village, responsible for creating and implementing strategies to inspire individual donor prospects to make meaningful gifts in support of the organization's fundraising priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute annual fundraising plans to meet revenue targets
  • Build and manage a portfolio of mid to major-level donor prospects, with a focus on securing gifts of $10,000+
  • Conduct qualification calls, emails, and visits to annual fund level donors to work to qualify their interest and capacity to give at the mid-level
  • Develop authentic relationships with donors in a focused portfolio to discover donor interests and help them accomplish their philanthropic goals in alignment with Canopy Village's organizational priorities
  • Solicit and close one-time and pledged gifts at the $10,000+ level, and partner on planned gifts of all levels where possible
Canopy Village Philanthropy Council Management
  • Create and implement council goals and objectives
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate meaningful, results-oriented quarterly council meetings
  • Set clear, action-oriented goals for volunteers aligned with Foundation goals
  • Recruit and assess current membership, considering new individuals who will bring value to Canopy Village Foundation
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the council
Grant Writing
  • Maintain a pipeline of grant opportunities in Salesforce
  • Write grant proposals with a defined monetary goal
  • Ensure timely reporting requirements for each grant
Administrative
  • Maintain accountability to administrative systems and procedures
  • Prepare for and actively participate in all Canopy Village Foundation meetings as appropriate
  • Work with the CEO to develop, manage, and monitor the budget
  • Understand and effectively use the technology available at Canopy Village, including Salesforce and Microsoft Office/Teams
  • Ensure strict compliance with all foundation policies, as well as local, state, and federal laws that govern business practices
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or CFRE preferred
  • 4-6 years of progressive fundraising experience, including gifts of $10,000+
  • High level of knowledge of an overall donor or customer experience model
  • Proven experience in prospect research and constituent relationship management
  • Solid relationship building skills, with the ability to interact successfully with others
  • Strong ability to speak in public, with excellent written communication skills
  • Sensitivity to the needs of donors, with problem-solving, research, and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail and organization, with proficiency in Microsoft Office products and databases
