Job Summary:

The newly opened 12-Bed Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) and Observation Unit at Highpoint Health Sumner is a dual-purpose unit designed to provide comprehensive care for patients requiring short-term observation and those needing acute medical or post-surgical care.

This unit integrates the capabilities of both Med-Surg and observation services, allowing for efficient management of a diverse patient population while ensuring high-quality care in a modern and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Performs patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice in other nursing units as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Current State of Tennessee or Multi-State Registered Nurse licensure
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree or RN Diploma in Nursing
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) within 12 months of employment
  • 1 year of nursing experience preferred
