About the Job

We are seeking a skilled Irrigation Operator to join our team at Mountaire Farms. As an Irrigation Operator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining irrigation equipment, harvesting and maintaining equipment to harvest hay crops on irrigation fields.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, combines, and irrigation equipment.
  • Conduct daily inspections of equipment to ensure it is in working condition, including irrigation pivots and risers.
  • Notify supervisors of any issues or malfunctions.
  • Adjust farm machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions.
  • Attach farm implements, such as plows, discs, and sprayers, using bolts and hand tools.
  • Observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunction.
  • Harvest crops on spray irrigation fields.
  • Drive and operate farm machinery in fields and around the farm.
  • Change tractor attachments when needed.
  • Maintenance and minor repairs of equipment.
  • Harvest hay and process into round bales for feed and bedding.
Requirements
  • Previous experience as a farmer, farm hand, farm worker, farm laborer, agriculture operator, or spreader operator.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Driver's License.
  • Experience ploughing, drilling, harvesting (including combining), fertilizing (including relevant record keeping).
  • Ability to work on own initiative with high degree of detail.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in farming.
  • Ability to watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure a machine is working properly.
  • Ability to determine causes of operating errors and decide what to do about it.
  • Ability to adjust controls of a machine or vehicle quickly and repeatedly to exact positions.
  • Ability to time movements or movement of a piece of equipment in anticipation of changes in speed and/or direction of a moving object or scene.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Ability to see objects or movement of objects to one's side when eyes are looking ahead.
  • Ability to coordinate movement of arms, legs, and torso together when whole body is in motion.
  • Ability to see under low light conditions.
