Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for assembling, disassembling, erecting, and repairing boilers, tanks, vats, pressure vessels, exchangers, and heaters according to blueprint specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble and disassemble equipment according to blueprint specifications
  • Erect and repair boilers, tanks, vats, pressure vessels, exchangers, and heaters
  • Locate and mark reference points for columns and plates on foundation
  • Attach rigging or signal crane operator to lift parts to specified position
  • Align structures or plate sections to assemble boiler frame, tanks or vats
  • Hammer, flame-cut, file, or grind irregular edges of sections or structural parts
  • Bolt structures and sections together
  • Position drums and headers into supports or bolts supports to frame
  • Align water tubes and connect and expand tube ends to drums and headers
  • Bolt casing sections, uptakes, stacks, baffles, and fabricated parts to frame
  • Install trays in process towers
  • Install manholes, valves, gauges, and feedwater connection in drums to complete assembly of water tube boilers
  • Assist in testing assembled vessels
Requirements
  • High school or equivalent
  • One to four years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
  • Written pre-employment qualification test
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
  • Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
  • Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in construction tool use (i.e. grinders, oxy/acetylene torch)
  • Rigging
  • National Certification preferred (may be required by client)
  • Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

Physical Involvement

The successful candidate will be required to perform physical tasks, including climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level, maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc., reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials, coordinating the movements of eyes, hands, and fingers to operate tools and equipment, lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead, carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc., standing/sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crouching/squatting, seeing with or without correction, hearing with or without correction, wearing respirator and other PPE, working in excessive heat, working in excessive cold, and working in a loud environment.
