Job Summary

We are seeking a part-time custodian to join our team at the Diocese of Orlando. As a custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our facilities, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for our staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily custodial tasks, including emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, washing windows, dusting furniture, and cleaning vents, fans, and walls.
  • Sanitize various facility areas, including restrooms, kitchen and food areas, and cafeterias.
  • Operate heavy custodial equipment, such as mopping, stripping, waxing, and floor buffing machines.
  • Remove trash and recyclables, and transport materials to disposal areas.
  • Use chemicals and cleaners safely and productively, following established regulations and guidelines.
  • Respond to emergency situations, such as spills, broken windows, and broken locks.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or using hand trucks.
  • Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding for events, such as banquets or meetings.
Requirements
  • Appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings.
  • High School diploma or equivalent, supplemented by previous experience demonstrating ability to safely and effectively operate standard facility custodial equipment.
  • Ability to communicate, listen to, and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Strong command of both written and spoken English language.
  • Ability to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.
  • Physical ability to exert heavy physical effort, with greater emphasis on climbing 15 feet and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials 30 pounds.
Working Conditions

This is a part-time, 20 hours per week position. Additional hours may be required from week to week. The working hours of this position are not limited to an 8-hour day. This person will need to be available in the evening and weekends, as needed.
