Key Responsibilities
  • Picks up and removes hazardous articles from floors, furniture, and equipment, and places them in designated receptacles.
  • Removes all waste from operating rooms, including suction canisters and Neptune devices.
  • Cleans floors, equipment, and surfaces, including OR beds, surgical lights, and booms.
  • Changes bed linens and sets up equipment in assigned areas.
  • Adheres to all Infection Control and regulatory agency standards.
  • Cleans surgical suites and peri-op areas.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be able to speak English and perform medium to heavy physical labor.
  • Previous experience working in a hospital setting and/or in the healthcare industry is preferred.
  • Excellent intrapersonal skills, time management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with all levels of the organization are required.
What We Offer

Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke-free environment. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. This function/position may be designated as essential, requiring employees to remain at their work location or report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations during institutional emergencies.

Pre-Employment Requirements
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
  • Complete an electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 5-panel drug screen.
  • Successfully complete a Background Check investigation.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
