At Houston Methodist, the Senior Ultrasound/Vascular Imaging Specialist role is designed for a seasoned professional who performs a wide range of standard to highly intricate diagnostic ultrasound procedures. This includes both routine and specialized vascular ultrasound examinations. As a vital member of the patient care team, the Senior Specialist demonstrates full proficiency in all facets of ultrasound imaging.
Key Responsibilities
- Fosters a collaborative and positive work atmosphere, contributing to a team-oriented environment that encourages mutual support to achieve departmental objectives.
- Mentors and guides junior Ultrasound Technologists and students, enhancing their confidence and skill sets through shared knowledge and experience.
- Facilitates clear and professional communication, both verbal and written, to ensure comprehensive understanding among team members and to promote effective problem resolution.
Service Delivery
- Conducts diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including both common and specialized vascular studies, utilizing high-frequency sound waves to generate images.
- Proactively evaluates and addresses patient needs to optimize care, image quality, and overall patient experience, including adjustments in positioning and technical parameters.
- Assists physicians during diagnostic and specialized ultrasound procedures, ensuring adherence to sterile techniques.
- Provides clear explanations and instructions to patients and their families, using appropriate terminology and communication methods.
Quality and Safety Standards
- Adheres to established safety protocols and conducts all imaging procedures in compliance with relevant standards. Maintains sterile techniques and follows infection control guidelines.
- Identifies areas for improvement and contributes to departmental quality and safety initiatives, reporting any incidents promptly to enhance processes.
- Ensures all imaging equipment is properly maintained and operational, reporting any issues to management as necessary.
Documentation and Resource Management
- Maintains accurate and thorough documentation of patient procedures and enters charges promptly upon service delivery.
- Utilizes resources efficiently, demonstrating self-motivation and effective time management skills.
Professional Development
- Actively engages in departmental projects and initiatives, seeking opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth.
- Creates a constructive learning environment for students and colleagues, aligning educational opportunities with organizational goals.

Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited educational program recognized by the relevant credentialing body.
- Minimum of three years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist.
- Required certifications include RDMS-OB, RDMS-AB, RDMS-BR, ARRT-SON, ARRT-VS, RVS, or RVT, along with BLS certification.
Skills and Competencies
- Demonstrates the necessary skills and competencies to perform the assigned duties safely and effectively.
- Possesses strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal, essential for patient and team interactions.
- Ability to work independently and manage complex diagnostic procedures with sound judgment and clinical expertise.
