Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee initiatives aimed at enhancing student career development, particularly for undergraduate students.
  • Drive the advancement of alumni relations.
  • Foster an open, respectful, and inclusive environment through equity-minded, student-centered practices that prioritize mutual respect, dignity, self-awareness, and authenticity.
  • Adopt an asset-based approach to advising, tailoring educational guidance to meet students at their individual levels and recognizing the unique social capital each student possesses.
  • Encourage students to take charge of their learning journey and assist them in making informed academic decisions.
  • Guide students in selecting courses and navigating the registration process.
  • Identify relevant campus activities and programs that align with students' fields of study.
  • Maintain regular communication and contact with assigned students.
  • Utilize data to conduct timely outreach regarding students' academic progress and perform audits on degree completion.
  • Recognize when a student's circumstances necessitate referral to campus resources.
  • Uphold the confidentiality of student records.
  • Educate students about the university's organizational structure, systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of departmental advisor training, participate in university-level committees, and act as academic liaisons across various departments and programs.
  • Coordinate significant projects, programs, and initiatives that align with the mission of the advising unit, college, and university.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of three years of pertinent work experience.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proven capacity to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and parents.
  • Demonstrated skill in interpreting and applying academic policies.
  • Strong organizational capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and resolve conflicts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in student advising.
  • Familiarity with programs and majors offered at Purdue.
  • Background in alumni relations.
  • Experience facilitating career development opportunities for undergraduate students.
