The Pharmacy Technician is a key staff member who works under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, physician, or other authorized healthcare professional, performing various pharmacy-related functions. They assist pharmacists in developing extended clinical pharmacy roles, such as independent prescribing by site medical directors and other licensed staff.
A crucial role of the Pharmacy Technician is ensuring the security of prescription drugs and pharmaceuticals and controlling the pharmacy inventory. They also participate in various meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain knowledge of new developments, task efforts, and policy requirements.
Responsibilities include documenting care delivered and follow-up care required, managing day-to-day activities, prioritizing tasks, operating personal computers, and complying with applicable Acuity standards and guidelines. The Pharmacy Technician also maintains the highest regard for patient dignity and observes the precepts of the American Hospital Association's Bill of Rights for patients.
Requirements include completing a formal Pharmacy Technician training program leading to a diploma, certificate, or associate's degree. U.S. Military Pharmacy technical school training certification (4P0X1, 68Q, or HM-8482) will also fulfill this requirement. Two years' experience as a Pharmacy Technician is required, as well as recent clinical experience in patient care for at least 6 months out of the past year.
Additionally, the Pharmacy Technician must have a valid, current U.S. Driver's License, a valid U.S. Passport with no less than 6 months remaining before expiration, and a favorable security background check and drug screen. They must sign an International Assignment Agreement (IAA) and be current in all required certifications.
