Position Overview
We are seeking a Paraprofessional with extensive knowledge in supporting students with special needs, demonstrating compassion and patience for the challenges these students encounter in the classroom, and exhibiting creativity in making the curriculum accessible.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement training on de-escalation techniques and behavior interventions.
- Follow and execute behavior support plans.
- Communicate daily with various stakeholders outside the classroom, including Adaptive PE, social workers, parents, and therapists, to ensure seamless student service transitions.
- Maintain a daily log of student activities and work samples.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and IEP meetings.
- Assist the classroom teacher in instructing individual students with disabilities across various educational settings as determined by the classroom teacher and IEP team.
- Provide reinforcement for material initially taught by classroom and special education teachers.
- Guide independent study, enrichment, and remedial work as set up by the classroom teacher.
- Adapt curriculum accommodations and modifications as established by the educational specialist per IEP requirements.
- Assist individual students during testing and with special education software.
- Support a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction for individuals or small groups in specialized programs.
- Assist assigned teachers with the implementation of individual education plans.
- Integrate coaching feedback consistently.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with students, families, and colleagues.
- Approach professional development with commitment and reflection.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the classroom teacher and/or administrator.

Setting:
This role operates within a school/classroom environment, utilizing standard classroom equipment such as laptops, photocopiers, whiteboards, and Chromebooks. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands outlined here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. This position involves sitting, walking, and standing for extended periods. Staff may need to lift, pull, or push objects weighing approximately 50 pounds or less. The employee will encounter exposure to ill students and must possess mobility to climb, kneel, stoop, crawl, reach, and bend, along with the ability to perceive sound, near and far vision for reading small print, and providing oral information and direction. The position is primarily located at a school site with outside supervision and occasional district office visits. The employee will frequently work independently under high work volume and tight deadlines.
Qualifications
Required:
Education:
- High School Diploma + 2 years of college OR AA degree (or higher) OR passed CBEST OR passed a recognized local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting instruction.
Other Qualifications:
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Provision of TB clearance within 60 days of hire, as mandated by the California Education Code.
- CA DOJ and FBI fingerprint clearance prior to the first day of school.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical or religious exemption.

- Three (3) years of recent experience in a special education setting preferred.
- Demonstrated ability and experience working with BIPoC populations.
