Job Title: Nuclear Medicine Imaging Specialist
Department: Radiology
The Nuclear Medicine Imaging Specialist plays a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions. The scope of practice includes, but is not limited to, the following areas and responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Requires the exercise of judgment to assess and respond to the patient's needs prior to, during, and after procedures in the nuclear medicine department.
- Performs patient assessment and screening within the scope of practice.
- Uses a variety of imaging equipment and understands the capabilities and limitations of each piece of equipment.
- Uses the image archiving system and maintains expertise in data and image transfer.
- Interacts appropriately with patients and all care providers.
Quality Control:
- Requires the evaluation and maintenance of a quality control program for all instrumentation to ensure its proper performance and stability.
- Cleans, disinfects, and inspects equipment.
Diagnostic Procedures:
- Requires the utilization of appropriate techniques to ensure quality diagnostic images and/or laboratory results.
Radiopharmaceuticals:
- Involves the procurement and preparation, quality control, dose calibration, identification, documentation, administration, disposal, storage, and safe handling of radioactive material.
Radiation Safety:
- Educates the public on practicing techniques that will minimize radiation exposure to the patient, general public, and healthcare personnel consistently.
Nuclear Regulatory Committee:
- Able to correspond respectfully.
- Provides diagnostic aid to physicians by conducting organ or body scans to patients.
- Records and administers isotope dosages in accordance with established departmental protocol.
- Observes patients during procedures and reports any abnormal activity.
- Follows IAC accreditation guidelines and procedures.
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must possess an American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (AART) or a Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) NMT certification.
