Overview:

The Senior Java Web Application Developer will be instrumental in supporting the Minnesota Department of Education's (MDE) initiatives related to custom web-based applications. This role encompasses leading the design and execution of complex computer systems, ensuring the efficient operation of existing web applications, and directing the technical architecture of agency systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide and mentor advanced technical specialists on significant projects.
  • Engage with senior management to assess business processes and propose automation solutions that enhance operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the long-term planning and design of system architecture, ensuring alignment with the agency's strategic objectives.
  • Conduct thorough analysis and approval of systems, networks, and applications.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years of relevant IT experience as a Full Stack Java Developer, focusing on the development of comprehensive object-oriented Java web applications.

Experience should include:

  • Proficiency with web application frameworks such as Spring Framework or Spring Boot.
  • Experience in Azure app development and migration, along with GitHub Actions.
  • Hands-on skills in user interface design using HTML3, CSS3, JavaScript, and React.
  • Expertise in SQL database management, including creation, modification, and querying.
  • Familiarity with database integration technologies like JDBC and Hibernate.
  • Knowledge of source control systems such as GitHub or Subversion.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration.
  • Customer service capabilities, including active listening and problem-solving.

A master's degree in Information Technology or a related field may substitute for three (3) years of experience, while a bachelor's degree may substitute for two (2) years, and an associate's degree may substitute for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Groovy and Grails.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies and microservice development.
  • Extensive background in web application performance analysis and optimization.
  • Ability to integrate third-party libraries into applications.
  • Experience with build script development tools such as ANT, Gradle, or Maven.
  • Leadership experience in managing projects and mentoring junior developers.
  • Advanced skills in using and configuring IDEs such as IntelliJ and Visual Studio.
