GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Deliver comprehensive primary optometry services within the scope of training, which encompasses diagnosis, treatment, care coordination, preventive measures, and health maintenance for patients across all age groups. As a vital member of the Optometry care team, the Optometrist is expected to be well-versed in the organization's philosophy, goals, and objectives, collaborating effectively to achieve them. Compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations is essential.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Administer outpatient care for individuals with ocular disorders and conditions.
- Perform routine eye examinations, including visual field assessments.
- Assess each patient's visual acuity, field of vision, and hand-eye coordination.
- Compile detailed medical histories for all patients, noting current and previous prescription medications.
- Evaluate ocular symptoms such as discharge, redness, and inflammation.
- Prescribe corrective lenses as necessary.
- Refer patients to ophthalmologists for advanced eye care when needed.
- Educate patients on effective eye care practices.
- Identify eye health safety considerations that may affect vision, such as exposure to chemicals or prolonged computer use.
- Advise patients on appropriate eye hygiene and care.
- Supervise training students as assigned.
- Adhere to the Health Center Infection Control Plan, utilizing universal precautions and ensuring compliance by support staff.
- Engage in peer review, quality assurance, provider meetings, and other clinical discussions.
- Assist in the revision of protocols and practice principles as required.
- Participate in public relations activities within the optometry community.
- Meet UDS productivity standards and fulfill minimum requirements.
- Contribute to safety programs, which may involve participation in an emergency response team.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned to maintain an efficient clinic operation.
All providers are expected to engage in ongoing quality improvement initiatives within the optometry clinical domain.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Florida State Optometrist License.
- Current DEA Certificate.
- Malpractice insurability.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR).
Working Conditions:
Position may involve varying and unpredictable situations, with frequent interruptions and occasional pressure from multiple inquiries.
Physical Demands:
Light physical effort required (lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs.); prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer; occasional standing/walking; manual dexterity and mobility required; may involve reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
