Key Responsibilities:
- Assists in the diagnosis and therapeutic management of patients under the supervision of a physician.
- Organizes and presents patient data to the supervising physician(s) to include recommendations for appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic regimens as determined by patients' needs.
- Issues diagnostic and therapeutic orders, including orders for approved drugs following applicable guidelines.
- Provides instructions and guidance regarding healthcare and medical therapy to patients, family members, and significant others.
- Performs complete, detailed, and accurate health histories and reviews patient records.
- Orders appropriate laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies.
- Performs comprehensive physical examinations and assessments and records pertinent data in the electronic health record.
- Formulates medical and nursing diagnoses and institutes appropriate therapies or referrals of patients to appropriate healthcare facilities, agencies, physicians, or other resources in the community.
- Plans and initiates a therapeutic regimen, including ordering drugs, medical devices, and nutrition and supportive services.
- Interprets and analyzes patient data to determine patient management and treatment.
- Administers injections and dispenses medications.
- Troubleshoots issues with the electronic health record system.
- Creates and edits documents within the electronic health record system.
- Serves as an instructor for new providers.
- Prepares reports as needed.
- Serves on various committees and Quality Improvement teams.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to work a schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama.
- Completion of an approved nurse practitioner training program.
- Certification as a nurse practitioner.
- Licensure with the state of Alabama as a nurse practitioner and registered nurse.
- OR
- Completion of an accredited physician assistant training program as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama.
- Licensure with the state of Alabama to practice as a Physician Assistant within two months of employment.
