Parks Maintenance Specialist

As a key member of the Hall County team, the Parks Maintenance Worker will be responsible for performing skilled and unskilled related work in County Park facilities. This role involves operating light to medium size construction equipment in the maintenance of Park grounds and facilities.
Essential Functions:
- Cleans bathrooms, including toilets and urinals, sweeping and mopping floors, and replenishing supplies.
- Gathers and empties trash and recycling.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Responsibilities for Community Centers:
- Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming.
- Cleans doors and windows.
- Dusts furniture and equipment.
- Changes light bulbs as needed.
- Sets up tables and chairs in community rooms for meetings and events.
- Notifies Facility Coordinator of any concerns or major repairs needed.
Responsibilities for Parks and Fields:
- Operates and maintains tractors, attachments, and other light to medium duty landscaping equipment.
- Performs maintenance tasks on all park buildings.
- Paints signs and park buildings.
- Cuts grass, trims trees and hedges, plants and maintains grass, shrubs, and trees in parks.
- Lines and sets up fields according to league rules and regulations.
- Repairs soccer nets and other equipment; transports tables and chairs and sets up for events.
Materials and Equipment Used:
- Various saws, trenchers, power tools, tractors, drill presses, chain saws, lawn mowers, tillers, builders' levels, dump trucks, weed eaters, bulldozers, earth augers, volt meters, paint equipment and supplies, and various cleaning supplies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education and Experience: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Two years of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or construction experience.
- Two years of Turf Management Experience.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Commercial Driver's License or a temporary CDL and the ability to obtain a CDL with six months of employment and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Georgia Pesticide Applicator License after six months.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing techniques.
- Skill in the operation of light to medium construction equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.
- Ability to perform manual labor.
- Ability to keep proper records/Turf Management.
ADA Minimum Qualifications:
- Physical Ability: Essential functions continuously require the ability to move about by walking; maintain body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, crouching or navigating narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces; repetitively use hands/arms/legs; and move/transport items weighing up to 25lbs.
- Essential functions frequently require the ability to bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, twisting at the waist, hips or knees; reach overhead; push or pull items; and move/transport items weighing between 26lbs and 50lbs.
- Incumbents must frequently be able to make decisions and adjust to change.
Sensory Ability:
- Essential Functions require the ability to use effective verbal and written communication; and use of hand/eye coordination and fine manipulation to use tools and equipment.
Environmental Factors:
- Essential functions are continuously performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather; extreme hot or cold temperatures; risk of bodily harm from hazards including sharp objects and tools, heavy machinery, and other hazards including traffic; dirty soil/mud; extreme dry environments; fumes, gasses, odors, dust, grease and oil; and wet slippery floors/surfaces.
