Position Overview:


The Radiologic Imaging Specialist is responsible for conducting a range of radiographic examinations at a technical level that necessitates independent judgment and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes. This role requires adherence to population-specific competencies and compliance with National Patient Safety Goals based on patient interaction levels.


Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Radiologic Imaging Specialist include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Operate and maintain radiographic equipment
  • Ensure proper functioning of radiographic equipment and report any malfunctions promptly
  • Implement safety measures such as lead aprons and shields to maximize radiation safety
  • Perform necessary clerical tasks related to radiology requests
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness in radiographic examination areas
  • Provide essential care and safety for patients during their time in the radiology department

Accountability:
The Radiologic Imaging Specialist reports directly to the Radiology Technologist Lead and/or Radiology Manager/Director.

Physical Requirements:

Dexterity:
Frequent use; activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time

Mobility:
Constantly required; activity exists up to 2/3 of the time
Strength: Medium (Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force consistently to move objects)
Communication: Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Vision:
Required

Hearing:
Required
Color Acuity: Must be able to distinguish and identify colors

Environmental Conditions:


There is a potential risk of injury to fingers while operating equipment, as well as the possibility of contamination or infection through accidental needle punctures or exposure to chemical fumes during radiograph development. Frequent interaction with patients who may have contagious conditions and with electrical equipment is also expected.

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program is required.
  • Radiography certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • Current CPR certification is required within 90 days of hire.
  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written) are essential.
